Shield Services Group Makes Major Statement With New Premises

Family-Owned Business Reinforces Its Commitment To Hanham And Its Local Workforce With Major Investment

Shield Services Group has demonstrated once again that its roots remain core to its future by purchasing the former Lidl Hanham store (top left) on Hanham High Street.  Founded in 1979 by Phillip House, from his home in Kingswood, Shield has evolved over the past 45 years to be a nationally recognised leader across the fields of Asbestos Surveying, Consultancy and Removal, Mechanical, Electrical & Facilities Services, Scaffolding, Fire & Security, Passive Fire Protection, Insulation and Marine Services.

The £2.4m investment, including the neighbouring bank, will see Shield consolidate each of its divisions, excluding Scaffolding and Marine, plus its shared service departments under one roof, leading to greater efficiencies, smoother processes and an even tighter family bond. Shield’s current Head Office, on Crown Way in Warmley, will be converted to house the Scaffolding division which, due to significant success, has outgrown its current premises in Longwell Green.

Luke House (bottom left), Shield’s Chairman and son of founder Phillip, has been the driving force behind the move and had this to share, “I am staunchly proud of my roots here in the Hanham area and can’t wait to see the Shield Family moving under one roof, achieving even more together.  Like my father before me, I see our history and ongoing commitment to the area as being a significant strength right at the heart of our success.

A good number of our senior leadership team are former pupils of Hanham High School, now Hanham Woods Academy, where I regularly go to present to pupils the benefits of a career in construction. Being able to drive further business success, in particular the employment of hardworking local people, really feels great.  The move will make us one of the largest employers in the area.  When I first viewed the premises, alongside my father, we both said that it felt like we were ‘coming home’.”

Shield’s Founder, Phillip House (bottom right), commented, “When I look back at the timeline of our evolution, our commitment to the area has reaped the benefits of a strong workforce, many of whom have become family to us. From Kingswood in 1979 to Cadbury Heath in 1981 and onwards to St. George in 1985, then Albert Road, Hanham in 2000, which was converted to Shield Court and on to our current location in Warmley in 2005, our business has grown and with it our success.  This next step forward will be fantastic for Shield Service Group.”

The renovation works commence this week, with a view to moving in as soon as possible.
