Recently, Luke House, Shield’s Chairman, did just that.

When Frank Woodman, a well-known and much-loved former PE teacher from Hanham High School, lost his home and all his possessions in a devastating house fire, Luke didn’t hesitate. Frank, a widower who had already endured years of hardship and isolation, was left with nothing and placed in emergency hotel accommodation in Filton.

Thanks to Luke, Frank is now safely housed back in Hanham. His community, his home.

For Luke, this wasn’t about recognition. It was about doing what needed to be done to help someone who’s spent decades supporting others. Frank’s neighbour, Nicole, who launched a GoFundMe page to help cover basic essentials, called him “a pleasure to live next door to” and highlighted his quiet dedication to the local community. The fundraiser has already seen over 200 donations and raised more than £6,600, a powerful reflection of the impact Frank has had on so many lives.

Luke’s actions are a reminder that real leadership doesn’t always come from titles or positions, it comes from heart.
