Shield’s Annual Golf Day – Mark 3
Tuesday 11th September marked our third annual golf day – a get together of clients and colleagues arranged by Olly from the BD team and Tim, the South East Regional Director to raise money for charity.
The day was held at Warwickshire Golf & Country Club, the first time the event had occurred in the region of our Warrington and Birmingham branches, whose Branch Managers chose this year’s charities: Marie Curie and Claire House Children’s Hospice.
With a turnout of around 70 Shield colleagues and clients, the day kicked off with 10:00am bacon rolls and coffee on arrival and a chance to catch up with each other before getting the serious business underway; registering and receiving score cards from Tim and Olly.
With 15 teams taking buggies to different holes around the course, play commenced shotgun start-style at 11:30am. The first two holes were played in heavy rain, however the rain stopped for the rest of the day.
A hole-in-one prize of £10,000 was up for grabs, but was left unclaimed, however one competitor won the ‘Nearest the Pin’ competition with an approach shot that took the ball within two inches of the 17th hole!
Following play, a two course meal and the presentation of the trophies took place. The scores were of an impressive standard. In third place was the BD team, second place was the Birmingham team and first place went to the Cornwall Asbestos team who received small personal trophies and Under Armour golf polo shirts each as well as the honour of getting their team engraved on the Shield Golf Trophy for 2018.
The Partnerships Manager of Claire House Children’s Hospice delivered a fantastic speech talking about all the great works done by the Hospice. Between the two charities, with the combination of the raffle, donations and hole sponsorships from suppliers, we managed to raise £1600.
Olly would like to thank all those for the gratitude and appreciation he received following this event as well as thanking everyone who attended – they made it a fantastic day!
