Shield Marine Division have recently won a tender as a part of a large upgrade project on the heritage vessel, Steam Ship Shieldhall, the project is called “saving SS Shieldhall” and is run by a team of volunteers in Southampton, these are mainly retired seamen and have a vast amount of experience in this area.
The work is funded by the National lottery and will consist of several upgrades requiring specialist trades with knowledge of engineering techniques from previous years, Shield Marine Division have worked on similar heritage vessels and bring their expertise to the project with both the upgrades and technical support to the Shieldhall team.
The upgrade work will be sympathetic to the original look as far as is practically possible taking into consideration new legislation on environmental issues and maritime regulations.
The work will be carried out in Southampton by our Marine Division which has a local base in Totton.
As a part of the service we will complete the works with a thermographic survey of the engine room, this is a specialist service offered to ensure that the safety regulations laid down by the various maritime governing bodies are complied with.
