January’s Employee Of The Month and Ian Story Health & Safety Champion Awards Announced

January’s Employee Of The Month and Ian Story Health & Safety Champion Awards Announced

What a month January was for nominations for both of our key employee awards, with fourteen nominations for the Employee Of The Month alone.

We are delighted to announce that Daren Cocking (top left), our Senior Contracts Manager from Truro, won the Employee Of The Month Award with a total of four nominations and Nathan Hick, Asbestos Supervisor from Truro, has claimed the Ian Story Health & Safety Champion award.  A double-win for our Truro branch!!

Daren was nominated by Rob Miotla, Cheryl Byrne, Mark Byrne and Michelle Sambells who all focussed on his fantastic attitude and importance to the branch. Shield Operations Director, Rob Miotla has this to say, “I can’t praise or thank Daren enough for the effort he puts in every day.  Aside from being very good at his job, Daren consistently puts in the over-and-above effort that has helped bring the branch back to its current strong position.  From going into the office at the weekend, to starting work at 5:30 am and finishing late, to taking only afternoons as his holiday so that key tasks are still undertaken, Daren just “gets it done”. He doesn’t make a fuss or draw attention to the extra effort that he puts in as he is very selfless.  In reality, Daren should be up for EOM every month, because he regularly goes well above and beyond and is the backbone of the branch. And he does all that whilst grinning like a Cheshire cat. The man is a phenomenon and deserves recognition and I would like to express my heartfelt thanks for all the effort that you put in.  Thank you, Daren, you are an absolute delight to work with!”

Rob was also ready to share his praise of Nathan Hicks’ efforts, “Nathan has worked hard to re-integrate into the Truro Asbestos Team since re-joining us a few months ago.  As well as receiving positive feedback from clients and peers, Nathan has particularly impressed the Kier site management team at Treviglas Academy in Newquay, so much so that they decided to award him a “Green Card” to “recognise the positive contribution to collaborative working with our Safety, Health & Environment Management System requirements, including our Just and Fair Culture Standard”. Nathan received his award in a formal meeting with Kier on 20th December 23.  Well done Nathan, keep up the good work!”

Luke House, Shield Services Group Chairman, stated, “This month has exceeded expectations across the board with the total nominations, so big thanks and congratulations to all nominees. However, I think someone getting 4 nominations is a record and just can’t be ignored, so congratulations Daren Cocking, thank you and a massive well done!  Our Health & Safety award was a close-run thing, but receiving a ‘Kier Green Card’ has tipped the balance this month, so big well done and special congratulations to Nathan Hick on becoming the Ian Story Health & Safety Champion for January 2024.  Congratulations to all of our award nominees and both winners.”
