Shield Announces Further Contract Win From Babcock For Type 31 Frigate Deck Coverings
UK based Shield Marine Services is proud to have been awarded the contract for Supply, and Installation of the ‘Deck Coverings’ to the Type 31 General Purpose Frigates for the UK Royal Navy
The order is to supply and install Carpets, Vinyl, and Resin Systems to five vessels and was received from Babcock International Group. Babcock will build the Type 31 Frigates at their Rosyth site in Scotland.
Derek Lewry, Managing Director of Shield’s Marine Services division, commented, “This contract is another significant win for the Marine Division following the previous announcement of the Insulation contract, and further establishes us as a critical supplier to the maritime defence sector. We are now firmly established in Scotland and looking forward to working closely with Babcock and the Royal Navy for the foreseeable future.”
Shield Marine Services, a division of Shield Services Group, will deliver the equipment from 2022 until the end of 2028 and plans to appoint much of its team from Rosyth and the surrounding area.
Luke House, Chairman of Shield Services Group, commented, “To be acknowledged as the preferred supplier in our field is just fantastic and a great reflection of the efforts of Derek and his team. We have always looked to support the UK Armed Forces, from recruiting personnel into the private sector to signing the Armed Forces Covenant. This contract award brings us even closer, which is extremely exciting for me and all of the team at Shield Services Group.”
