An opportunity has arisen for an experienced Quantity Surveyor to join Shield Services Group. The role is based in our Head Office in Bristol with some travel to other branches.
Reporting to the Chairman, the purpose of the role is to manage the costs relating to all Shield contracts/projects. This may include new and existing work, across all Shield divisions. From early projection of costs to final figures, you will seek to minimise the costs of the work and enhance value for money whilst ensuring that the work meets all legal and quality assurance requirements.
Main Duties:
- Introduce and monitor a centralised order receipt system, taking action on any large projects, to ensure orders are received in a timely fashion, reviewed, processed and returned within a couple of weeks.
- Introduce industry standards for the application for payment system.
- Provide training sessions where necessary for individuals to apply for payment correctly in line with the industry standard.
- Be responsible for the financial health of large projects, ensuring timely and correct valuations, monitoring progress and agreeing variations where necessary.
- Monitor final account positions.
- Introduce procedures necessary for tighter controls for the invoicing process.
- Review and suggest recommendations on the most efficient procedure across the company.
- Review and recommend actions for efficiency savings within the Finance team.
- Make recommendations for possible savings and efficiencies within the Procurement team.
- Introduce and monitor cost vs. value calculations. Monitor value (I.E Tender Sum figures) against expenditure and forward predict future movements; monitoring opportunities and risks.
- Introduce procedures for medium and lower-value projects to have tighter financial controls in line with the above.
- Become involved with the pricing of work where necessary to track regional differences in OHP and others, to establish the market position and help aid maximum return.
- Aid in the future cash flow projection – taking responsibility for the larger projects and therefore approximately ½-2/3 of company revenue.
- Target maximum cashflow position where possible, checking internal value against cost to date/projected costs and ensuring we are not undervaluing large contract interim applications.
- Responsible for negotiating contract terms and conditions to ensure favourable agreements that align with company objectives and mitigate risks.
- Become involved in Procurement (long-term goal)
- Bring Uniformity across all branches in all of the above
- Review all contract terms received into the group.
- Assist divisions with EWNs, payless notices, applications, rebate structures, legal notices & 7-day letters.
- Assist group divisions with forecasting, budget & financial reporting
- Prepare application templates where required for group divisions
- To attend the office & regional offices and be a visible presence supporting the team in delivering their roles
- Attend client meetings with divisions where required to aid project conception & final account
- Identify, assess, and inform fellow Directors of internal and external issues that affect Shield
- Represent Shield Services Group externally to the public, clients, and community to enhance the organisation’s profile
- Develop and implement business strategies and objectives to achieve divisional goals and objectives aligned with the overall vision and strategy.
- Ensure operational efficiency and effectiveness by implementing best practices, streamlining processes, and optimising resources
- Assist with monthly application build-up where deemed necessary by Managing Directors.
Qualifications and Experience:
- A degree or a professional qualification accredited by the Royal Institute of Chartered Surveyors (RICS) is required
Other Qualities and Requirements:
- In-depth knowledge of JCT & NEC contracts
- In-depth knowledge of Microsoft Excel
