project brief
In September 2013, Shield Asbestos Removals were contracted to carry out specialist fixed scaffolding for licensed asbestos works by Smiths Gloucester Ltd.
The project was the demolition of a disused warehouse in Tetbury, Gloucestershire. In order to remove AIB before demolition, Smiths required a specialist licensed contractor to build the asbestos scaffolding enclosure.
75m of scaffolding was erected across the internal elevation of the warehouse so that asbestos operatives could work at the right height to remove the AIB panelling.
The scaffolding project took two days to set up and one day to strike down.
Following further investigations at the pre-planning stage, circa 1,800m2 of Asbestos Insulating Board (AIB) panels were also identified, in the rear frame housing of the façade, forming part of the original fabric of the building. This was also included as a part of Shield’s scope of removal.
The project ran from July 2021 through to December 2023.
